Project: Tacoma General Hospital Stack Removal
Client: MultiCare Health Systems
Architect: N/A
Location: Tacoma, WA
Description:
A carefully considered work plan was developed for the demolition of this clay tile masonry stack, which tops out at 81' above the roof. JTM developed a demolition plan that used the stack itself as a debris chute, in essence caving the stack in on itself.

Scaffolding was erected around the chute and dismantled as the chute was demolished one brick at a time. The debris, sent down the chute and captured in containment vessels in the basement, was then removed. The efficient collection of the material prevented contamination of the hospital site from the lead paint coating on the bricks.
